Biography

My name is Patrick Keating.

I was born in London, UK, and grew up living in Bristol, Prague, CZ, and eventually settled in Lawrence, KS, USA. I very quickly caught the aviation bug as a kid having been fortunate to travel all over the world and knew from then on that this was my chosen career field. Fast forward to my junior year of high school, where I began taking flying lessons at one of the local airports. My instructor was a former F-15 pilot who inspired me to branch out into the more daring, aerobatic side of aviation. After earning my private license during my senior year, I began attending the University of North Dakota to earn degrees in both Commercial Aviation and Aviation Safety & Operations.

Having been a fan of both flying and video games since childhood, I discovered how the two could be fused into an immersive experience while at UND. Kyle Weller hired me to work at the Virtual Reality Lab at the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences, where I have since come to appreciate the power of VR in training and education. At UND, I have also taken lessons in aerobatics from Professor Michael Lents. Learning to master the Super Decathlon has been some of the most exhilarating flying I have ever done, and I hope to eventually be able to compete with the university’s aerobatic team.

I am very excited to be part of the Daring Jet Team as it begins to push the boundaries of both technology and sports
